What are the training requirements for an HHA in New York?
New York requires 75 hours of training for most candidates, including at least 16 hours of supervised practical (clinical) training through a NYSDOH-approved program. However, certified nurse aides (CNAs) may qualify for a CNA-to-HHA crossover pathway under 10 NYCRR Part 700, which may reduce or waive portions of the required classroom training since CNA coursework overlaps substantially with HHA content. How many questions are on the New York HHA competency exam?
The New York HHA written competency exam consists of 75 multiple-choice questions. You must score at least 70% (53 correct answers) to pass the written portion.
What is the passing score for the NY HHA exam?
The passing score is 70%. In addition to the written exam, you must also demonstrate competency in at least 5 clinical skills during the skills evaluation.
How many times can I retake the NY HHA exam?
You are allowed up to 3 attempts to pass both the written and skills portions of the exam. If you fail all 3 attempts, you must complete the full training program again before retesting.
Where do I find my name on the New York HCA/HHA registry?
